Packing up to head home the other day I launched my “Shutdown” app as I gathered my bag.  It hit me how awesome that little app, and it’s corresponding friend the “Startup” app.
Using the Automator application that comes with OS X I whipped up these two little apps that now sit in a folder on my dock.  They are really simple.  When I get to work, I click “Startup” and my two IM clients, my work email, and my server connections are all setup and ready for me to work.  When I leave I click “Shutdown” and the reverse happens.  It’s really quite handy when launching several applications each day.
